April is Volunteer Appreciation Month
Thank You!!! Thank You!! Thank You!!!
I sincerely thank each and every PTA volunteer who gives selflessly of their time, talent, and resources on behalf of Miami-Dade County Public School students on a daily basis.
For over 114 years PTA member/advocates have spent countless hours in schools and the community on behalf of children and families. Whether your hours are spent at a school, in an office, classroom or cafeteria, as a chaperone, gardener, or hall monitor or if you make your contribution from your home, please know that your involvement has an impact on the life of a child.
The value of PTA/PTSA volunteer hours in Miami-Dade County is approximately $1,100,880.00 per month or $11,008,800.00 per school year.*
As the economic situation in our county, and across the nation, continues to decline, now more than ever your collective efforts will be called upon to assist our schools.
I ask that you remain steadfast in your commitment and dedication to the principles upon which PTA was founded, always working to ensure that "Every child's potential is a reality", but please be ever mindful that we are first and foremost an advocacy association.
This month we celebrate YOU - our PTA volunteers!!!

*330 active local units @ 8 per day, 5 days per week, 20 days per month, 10 months per year. The IRS values each volunteer hour at $20.85.
Greetings,
The Miami-Dade County Council of PTAs/PTSAs (MDCC) is composed of over 56,000 PTA/PTSA members, within 334 local units, serving 340,000 students and their families. The Council was chartered in 1923, under the authority of the Florida PTA.
On behalf of the other members of the Council, please allow me to extend our heartfelt thanks to each of you, the parents, grandparents, family members, community members, teachers and administrators who work each day on behalf of the children in our community. While you may not realize, all of you are child advocates, doing your best not just for one child but for everychild® with onevoice®.
If you are already a member of a local unit, you know the importance of carrying out the mission and vision of PTA in the local community. If you have not yet had an opportunity to work with PTA, we invite you to become involved.
In others words - We Need You.
We need your help to make our PTAs and the community even stronger. Your participation is paramount in our Advocacy and Legislative efforts.
We also need you to become actively involved in the many committees the Council has organized to keep our students and families informed and involved in the education process.
We need your help taking the best past practices of PTA and bringing them forward in a way that will engage the community, while simultaneously developing a cadre of advocates and community leaders from within the ranks of our local units.
That means we’ll ask you to not just join a local unit, but to actively participate in local unit, Council, state and National PTA activities, events and leadership development opportunities.
We Need You.
If we Imagine PTA with an even stronger advocacy base, with an increased number of trained leaders who Believe in and support the mission, vision and values of PTA, and if we prepare our students and family and community members to advocate for themselves and for others, we can actually Achieve PTA’s vision of “Making every child's potential a reality”.
We hope you’ll be supportive of our endeavors and offer us your time and talent on behalf of all of the children and families that we represent.
Yours in education,
Carolyn Nelson-Goedert - President
